No offence towards young people in Hong Kong recently waiving the pre-1997 colonial flag. Here we have a young designer Vu, who after spending almost two decades living in UK, returned to Hong Kong and was fascinated about every piece of history and Chinese heritage in his native village.
Having been brought up in England all his life, where he grew up to appreciate history and drama, and this influence is also reflected in his work. After completing his Masters Degree at one of England's top 5 Fashion institutes, Vu relocated to his family's home, a small historical village behind Hong Kong's vibrate cityscapes. It is here where he discovered the family's deep rooted history, sending him on a journey of self-reflection and exploration, and became his inspiration for creating his own fashion label - Vu Descent.
The First Collection
The first collection marks the proclamation of Chinese Heritage. Portraying the most iconic East meets West art movement in history, THE NEW AGE OF CHINOI takes inspiration from oriental porcelain and the chinoiserie movement.
Using the natural staining of indigo fabric as an advantage, the trim fabric on the garments are engineered to embrace color change. As it is washed, the color lost of the indigo will transfer onto/ covering the white flowers, just as history its self is muted as time goes by.
